First National Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) successfully issued in Egypt

A significant milestone in the BUILD_ME project was celebrated at the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC)’s International Conference: Green Smart Sustainable Building between Present & Future (GSSB 2024). The event marked the issuance of the country's first National Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for buildings in the MENA Region under the framework of the BUILD_ME Project.

The ceremony convened on the 17 December 2024, featuring the presentation of EPCs for two pilot projects: Badya Project (Palm Hills), represented by Eng. Ahmed Atalla, Senior Vice President and Banque Misr, represented by Dr. Nermeen Barakat, Head of Business Development and Facility Management.

The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Lorena Mohr, Head of the Scientific Department at the German Embassy in Egypt, who highlighted the German government’s commitment to combating climate change and promoting energy efficiency through initiatives like the BUILD_ME project.

The certificates were officially handed over in the presence of the HBRC Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Massoud.

This achievement signifies a pivotal step in advancing energy efficiency within Egypt's built environment, setting a precedent for future initiatives through Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), promoting transparency, driving financial initiatives, and in the establishment of a comprehensive national database, which, in turn, guides policies and national action plans.
