BUILD_ME Launches a Series of EPC Expert Trainings across Lebanon
After the first successful training in Tripoli, the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) has continued to deliver Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Expert trainings across Lebanon as part of the BUILD_ME project. This collaborative effort was conducted in partnership with Guidehouse and hosted by the Order of Engineers and Architects (OEA) in Beirut, spanning five different branches: Beirut, Nabatieh, Dbayeh, Saida, and Zahle. The trainings took place between 22 July and 31 July.
Dr. Sorina Mortada, Eng. Ghada Daouk, and Eng. Ammar Fadlallah from LCEC led the comprehensive trainings, drawing participation from 80 architects and engineers with diverse backgrounds across all different branches. The sessions covered a range of topics, including an overview of energy efficiency and renewable energy concepts, and discussions on parameters that define climate-friendly buildings. They also included an in-depth exploration of the updated Building Energy Performance (BEP) Tool 2.0 through case studies and exercises, and a detailed explanation of the EPC labeling scheme for Lebanon.
The EPC scheme will play a significant role in promoting transparency regarding the energy performance of the buildings sector. It will not only serve as a catalyst for financial initiatives but will also be instrumental in establishing energy performance criteria for the design and implementation of new buildings. These criteria will be reinforced through policies and national action plans aimed at promoting energy-efficient practices within the building sector across the country. As a crucial component of the scheme, trained EPC Experts will calculate the energy label for buildings on behalf of project owners, using the BEP Tool 2.0.
Trainees will undertake an exam to test their knowledge and skills before officially becoming Experts. Additionally, trainees who pass the exam will have the opportunity to participate in the EPC Auditors Training, scheduled for September 2024. In parallel, the BUILD_ME team will supervise pilot projects and engage in continuous discussions with policymakers to ensure a robust EPC scheme is in place for the future.
