BUILD_ME III Project Second National Workshop on “Benefits of Energy Performance Certificates for the Egyptian Built Environment."
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the Integrated Development Group (IDG), in collaboration with the Housing and Building Research Center (HBRC) and the project lead partner Guidehouse conducted the second National Workshop of the third phase of BUILD_ME project at the Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir, Cairo, Egypt. The workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders to explore how energy performance certification can help Egypt advance its goals of building efficiency.
The sessions covered a range of topics, encompassing an overview of the new features of the Building Energy Performance (BEP) Tool led by Eng. Riadh Bhar, BUILD_ME project manager. Followed by high-level view of the role and process of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in Egypt. The second part delved into the benefits of the EPC scheme for strategic partnerships to facilitate the collaborations, concluding with an introduction of an upcoming milestone of tailored trainings for different target groups such as EPC Experts, Auditors, Finance and Project developers, as well as EPC owners.
A signing ceremony took place during the workshop to formalize cooperation within the BUILD_ME project between our national partners, Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) represented by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Kamal, Professor of Urban Planning & Economics at HBRC, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Salheen, founder and chairperson of Integrated Development Group (IDG) and the Badya project by Palm Hills Developments, represented by Eng. Ahmed Atalla on the implementation of the EPC scheme.
The team also conducted a side meeting with the general manager of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy (MOERE) to synchronize the EPC within the ministry to promote energy efficiency. Additional discussion support by BUILD_ME on the NEEAPS under the policy framework.
Financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the BUILD_ME project is a promising step towards achieving highly efficient buildings in the MENA region with collaboration with Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC), Integrated Development Group (IDG), Royal Scientific Society in Jordan (RSS), Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) and the Intergovernmental Partner (RCREEE).
