BUILD_ME showcases commitment to sustainable urban development at WUF12
The World Urban Forum (WUF12) concluded in Cairo, drawing over 24,000 attendees from 182 countries for a week-long exploration into sustainable and equitable urban futures. The forum united global leaders, advocates, and innovators to address how local actions can accelerate sustainable urban development worldwide. Key discussions centred on financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate-resilient urban design, and ensuring access to affordable housing for all.
BUILD_ME contributed to this global dialogue, sharing insights on building energy efficiency and green urban planning through several impactful sessions, including:
- GlobalABC Regional Roadmap for Buildings and Construction in the Arab Region 2020-2050, where we dove into policies and strategies for sustainable buildings that are shaping the region’s green transition, organised by the UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure;
- Cities Action Plans: Empowering Green & Sustainable Urbanism, which took place during the Green Cities Initiative event, where we presented examples of financial practices supporting the implementation of green projects; and the
- BUILD_ME Training on Building Energy Performance Calculation and Certification, where we shared our approaches, strategies, and practical tools for calculating energy efficiency of new constructions and retrofitting existing stock. Slides are available for download, below.
BUILD_ME’s presence at WUF12 provided valuable opportunities for sharing our knowledge, especially with project developers and organisations in the MENA region. Additionally, we explored collaboration possibilities for expanding the project’s impact across the MENA region.
As WUF12 concluded with the Cairo Call to Action, a guiding document for sustainable urbanization, BUILD_ME remains committed to advancing these goals. We look forward to collaborating with stakeholders across sectors to turn WUF12’s outcomes into actionable change, supporting urban resilience and energy efficiency for a sustainable future.
