Pilot projects

For the support of pilot projects (WP 2), the project team offers technical assistance with the integration of energy efficiency measures and the use of renewable energies to recently started building projects. First, demand for support in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon is identified through an assessment of the status quo and an interaction with governmental organisations & private actors. Up to 2 projects per country are selected.

The project team provides demand driven consultancy services to private and state-owned project developers aimed at improving the overall energy performance of the buildings/projects. Consultancy services include: integrative planning using planning tools like dynamic simulations (e.g. Trnsys, EN13790); economic analysis using tools like PBP, IRR, NPV, WACC; informing on possible financing opportunities; the provision of guidelines for quality management; supporting the conception of suitable programs; and analysing the macro-economic potential of energy efficiency by calculating the national and regional building stock.

To benefit from the “free” technical assistance by a team of national and international experts, the project developer should agree to three principles:

  • The project developer will provide relevant information to enable experts to execute their assignment; experts will respect any confidential and sensitive data
  • The project developer agrees that the project results will be disseminated and sees the opportunity to attract a regional audience
  • The project developer will receive free technical assistance, but no financial compensation; nor will hardware be covered through the project

More details are shared with the project developer in a memorandum of understanding.

Information on the work done with selected pilot projects can be found on the respective country sections:
