National Energy Research Centre (NERC; Regional expert Mashriq)

The National Energy Research Center (NERC) has been established in 1998 in Amman/Jordan for the purpose of research, development, training in the fields of new and renewable energy and raising the efficiency of using energy in the different economic sectors and to promote the utilization of renewable energy in Jordan. The center was staffed with a team of qualified engineers who were trained and equipped with all needed instruments.

The main objectives of NERC are the promotion of rational use of energy and energy efficiency applications and the development of new energy efficiency technologies and techniques, in the main energy consuming sectors. The main goal of NERC is to ensure energy efficiency conditions in the relevant sectors (industry, buildings) and support the relevant market key actors as also energy consumers in reducing overall energy consumption.

  • Wind Energy
  • Bio-Energy & Oil shale

NERC is part of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) which is the largest applied research institution, consultancy, and technical support service provider in Jordan and is a regional leader in the fields of science & technology.


Housing and Building Research Center (HBRC)

HBRC is a national agency affiliated to the Ministry of Housing of Egypt. HBRC is responsible for promoting a sustainable building sector, including sustainable building materials, building physics, and energy-efficient buildings and cities. Initially, the center was established in 1954 as the Building Research Institute, and independent governmental research establishment subordinate to the Ministry of Housing. Between 1964 and 1971, HBRC was subordinate to the Ministry of Scientific Research, after which it became affiliated to the Ministry of Housing. In 2004, the Housing & Building National Research Center was established by presidential decree. HBRC gathers qualified staff conducting high level research & industry coordination, joint programs with international organizations, and engaging in partnerships with local & international universities.


Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC)

The Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) is the national energy agency for Lebanon. LCEC is a governmental organization affiliated to the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW). LCEC is the technical arm of the Ministry in all subjects related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and green buildings. LCEC has succeeded in establishing itself as the main national reference on sustainable energy in Lebanon. It is the leading provider of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs to the public and private sectors in Lebanon. LCEC offers proven expertise and support to the Government of Lebanon (GoL) to develop and implement national strategies towards saving energy, saving money, reducing greenhouse gas emissions with the final target being to improve durability, safety and comfort of the Lebanese population.


Track 0 (Policy expert)

Track 0 is an independent, not-for-profit organization serving as a hub to support all those transitioning to a clean, fair and bright future for future generations around the world compatible with the goals set out in the Paris Agreement. They convene leaders and provide strategic research, training, advice, communications and networking support to governments, businesses, investors, philanthropies, communities and campaigns run by civil society.

Growth for Knowledge

Growth for Knowledge (GfK) is Germany's largest market research institute, and the fourth largest market research organisation in the world, after Nielsen Company, Kantar Group and Ipsos. GfK was founded by an association of university teachers, among them Ludwig Erhard. In December 2011, GfK acquired Knowledge Networks, based in Palo Alto, California the United States, which does online research for consumer products and services, pharmaceuticals, retail, media, and public policy. More than 13000 market research experts combine their passion with GfK's data science experience.



This project is part of the International Climate Initiative. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision taken by the German parliament (Bundestag).
